Erik A. Johnson

Erik Johnson, founder of Penny Patrol, is a 20-year business veteran and multi-specialty tax and accounting expert. He provides fractional CFO and controllership services, has signed over a thousand tax returns, hundreds of financial statements and business valuations. Erik has represented many taxpayers before the IRS and various state agencies, and has been admitted to court as a subject matter expert in accounting, taxation, and valuation matters to defend his clients. He also has a long history of charitable activities, having served as treasurer and CFO for not-for-profit entities.
After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Erik built his career in public accounting, rising from associate to partner at a prestigious public accounting practice while working primarily with closely held businesses. After making partner, he was recruited to manage the taxes for a single high-net-worth family office, advising on real estate, hospitality, and generational wealth planning matters.
After five years managing family office matters, Erik decided to return to his professional roots, which is working with small and medium sized businesses and their owners. In 2022, Erik and Matt founded Penny Patrol, combining their complementary skills. Erik leads Penny Patrol as a passionate and technically oriented strategist, guiding businesses and families with clarity and trusted advice.
